We Help Victims of Domestic and Sexual Abuse Find Freedom.

Women of Grace is a domestic and sexual violence program designed to assist and advocate for victims. Services include but are not limited to a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, case management, professional counseling, referrals to emergency shelters, and other service-related activities provided to move the victim to recovery. Women of Grace provide community educational and awareness information about the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence. The program was developed in 2003, under GIA (God Is Able) Community Development Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri.

What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse encompasses violence or abuse by one person against another in a domestic context or intimate-partner context. Includes, but not limited to criminal or non-criminal acts constituting intimi-dation, control, emotional and psychological abuse. Domestic abuse can also include sexual abuse. Sexual abuse consists of non-consensual conduct of a sexual nature. It’s purposeful and done through threat,coercion, exploitation, deceit, and force.

1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. (CDC, 2017)

What Should I Do If I’m Being Abused?

If you are being abused by a partner or family member, the first thing you need to know is that abuse is not your fault. You also need to know that there is help available.
Important Note: If you are in immediate danger from your partner you need to call 911.
Making the decision to leave an abusive relationship is not easy. It takes a lot of courage. You may often feel alone and confused. Getting help is crucial. You need to connect with an advocate who can help you navigate your next steps.

Services We Provide

We are a qualified, experienced staff, licensed professional counselors, and trained volunteers committed to ending all types of abuse. We are only a call away.

Case Management

These services are tangible, goal-directed interactions. The case manager advocates and assist individuals to obtain needed services; to develop short and long-term resources, safety plans, and to facilitate the coordination of services from multiple service providers. The victim is educated regarding the Justice System. Services are provided by a qualified, trained staff member.

Crisis Intervention

Crisis intervention services help stabilize emotions, clarify issues, and provide support and assistance to help explore options for resolution, of the victims’ self-defined crisis and needs.

Hotline Counseling

Counseling and crisis intervention services are carried out over the hotline.

Proceedings for Protective/Restraining Orders

The victim is made aware of their legal rights and orders of protection and restraining options. Referrals are made to legal service providers to obtain protective/restraining orders.

Accompanying the Victim to Court

Advocacy efforts include going to court with the victim to provide emotional support.

Safety Plan Development

Assistance is provided to help the victim outline a plan of safety if faced with an unusual circumstance.

Intervention with Creditors and the Law

Advise victims of tenants’ rights, with landlords, and act as a liaison with creditors to avoid wage garnishments.

Assistance with Utilities

Act as liaison with utility companies to avoid disconnection of services and obtain funds from various programs,i.e., Heat-Up St. Louis.

Bullying and Bystander Educational and Awareness Training

Teen dating violence education and awareness are provided to middle and high school students, teachers, staff, and other agencies with teens. The overarching goal is to mobilize a force of engaged and proactive bystanders. A speaker from the DART (Domestic Abuse Response Team)and/or SART (Sexual Abuse Response Team) are often invited to share the consequence of perpetuating abuse.

Emergency Shelter

When shelters are full, hotel or short-term stay is provided.

Licensed, Professional Counselors

Domestic violence counselors specialize in helping their clients overcome through various types of therapy. Some types are Cognitive Behavior therapy, Compound Trauma therapy, PTSD and ADHD, Behavior counseling; Anger Management counseling and Behavioral Modification for Parents.

Emergency Food and Transportation

Supply emergency food as needed.

Peer Support Groups for Women

Facilitated by a professional group counselor or trained volunteer and generally focus on a specific issue or client profile, i.e., women that are rape victims.

Support Groups

Provided for emotional and psychological healing. Support groups can help identify the signs of domestic violence, the distinctions of passive-aggressive behavior, and much more.

ISurvive Retreat

Allows the victim to get away and relax in a safe environment. The retreat perpetuates healing through confidence building activities, exercises, inspirational and motivational speakers, relaxation techniques, (i.e., yoga), and more.

Safe at Home Applications

A confidentiality program administered to help survivors of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, and stalking stay safe by keeping their address out of the hands of their assailants.

Crime Victims Compensation Application

This program financially assists people who have sustained physical, emotional, or mental harm or trauma resulting from a crime. It pays for reasonable medical, counseling expenses, and burial.

Parenting Training

Assist with the development of parenting skills; this training is essential to parents that have temporarily lost custody of a child, due to the child’s exposure to abuse or neglect.

Life Skill Training

The victim is referred to various training classes, i.e., problem-solving, financial literacy, GED HiSET.

Community Education and Awareness

Educational information about domestic and sexual violence is provided through seminars, health fairs, community events, written materials, etc.

Referrals

Victims are referred out for services we do not offer, i.e., shelter.
